The farm is solely owned by Ms Babra Adoso who procured the land in 2010 in Nsimbiziwome Village, Bukandula Parish, Kabulasooke Sub County, Gomba District. The farm land is located in Nsimbiziwoome about 150 kms from the capital city and about 20 kms from the district headquarters of Kanoni municipal council on the Mpigi/Kanoni/Madu main road.
2.0 The Farm:
The farm is approximately 32 hectares (80 Acres), near Bukandula Town Council. A total of 3 permanent and 6 casual workers are employed on the farm. The farm is placed in a semi-arid location of the Gomba district with the rain fall minimum in the area. However, the area is good for grazing livestock and growing fruit trees, other long term trees including eucalyptus and pine. The farm is wholly fenced with semi-permanent materials.
2.1 Water Supply:
An open air dam of about 500,000 liters of water exists at the farm. An 8000 cc of water deep well is under construction to provide constant safe water to the farm and its neighbors for home use, livestock and irrigation purposes.
The farm is subdivided into several compartments, namely; afforestation including 10 acres of two year old pine forest, 35 acres of eucalyptus aged between 2 and 5 years and 0.5 acres of fruit trees (avocado) ), 2.5 acres of plantains (bananas) and highbred goats livestock.
3.0 Neighbors’ to the farm:
The farm is surrounded by several livestock diary farms with between 100 to 200 heads of cattle. The major challenge for the several surrounding livestock farms is constant supply of water and marketing their diary products, with the nearest urban centers located about 30 to 40 kilometers.
4.0 Farm House:
Besides the farm house constructed with temporary materials for accommodation of the farm workers, there is also a permanent constructed farm office and guard house. On the farm there exists several toilet facilities constructed with permanent structures.
4.1 Community Hall:
A 300 seater capacity hall has been erected on a two acre piece of land jointly with the community. It is used both as a place of worship for the community, meeting hall and for purposes of training farmers. This helps farmers and the community to train and discuss issues that concern their community and especially development. The topics covered vary from conservation agriculture, organic agriculture, animal husbandry, and soil husbandry, to income generating activities such as handicrafts.
5.0 Challenges:
a) Irrigation: This area is prone to water scarcity. Besides the infrastructure in place, we need more capacity in this area. We need pipes, sprinkles, generators, submersible solar pumps and a mini irrigation scheme that is befitting of a model farm;
b) Storage facility: We are desirous of a storage facility one that would store grain products, fruits and finished products for export; in addition to value addition facility for our products.
c) Bio gas Digester: We are desirous of a digester on the farm not only for energy needs but for training purposes. We desire construction of 5 (6m3) fixed dome digesters and establishment of structures for the management of biogas in the sub county. Outcomes and impact include increased knowledge and use of biogas at household level; improved livelihoods and protection of the environment; improved air quality (the amount of smoke released into the atmosphere is reduced); improved health and reduced respiratory elements; better management of animal dung and human excrement; reduced ground water pollution; reduced deforestation and resulting soil erosion; reduced depletion of solar nutrients; reduced green house gas emissions; the slurry provides an excellent fertilizer and thereby increases crop production, or can be sold to generate income; biogas will be packed and sold and income will be generated through carbon financing.
